Description:
The Thomas Edison and Henry Ford estates are historic landmarks in Fort Myers. Edison first built his Fort Myers home in 1886 and used this home as his winter retreat until 1931. His good friend Henry Ford became his next-door neighbor in 1915. The estates are now owned by the City of Fort Myers and the public may tour the homes, Edison’s laboratory, and the museum in which various memorabilia are housed. You may also tour the 14-acre tropical botanical gardens originally developed by Edison and his wife, which feature a great variety of plants, flowers and trees imported from all over the world, including a huge Banyan tree from India. On select days, you can take a narrated river cruise. The facility also offers gift shops and a cafe.
